Seniors Ride Free Program Information

The fast, smart way to use the Smart Card on CTA & Pace

  • Use your Senior Ride Free Smart Card to get free rides on the CTA Buses, Trains, and Pace Buses.

  • The Senior Ride Free Smart Card offers touch-and-to convenience at rail stations and on buses.  In most cases, you do not have to remove the card from your wallet or pocket.  Just touch your card to the station turnstile or to the bus fare-box and go!  (DO NOT INSERT YOUR CARD INTO ANY FARE EQUIPMENT)

Display your Smart Card on Metra

Metra requires that you display your Senior Ride Free Smart Card to the on-board conductor to receive your free ride.

Rules to Remember

  • Failure to have your senior Ride Free Smart Card while traveling on CTA, Metra or pace could result in you paying the full fare.

  • The Senior Ride Free Smart Card is as valuable as cash.  Keep it in a safe place.

  • This card is good for four years; do NOT throw it away.

  • Never insert it into any machine.
